1. The Ohio State University – One of the largest universities in the United States, Ohio State is ranked in the top twenty among national public universities. It has eighteen colleges and a total of 16,000 students. This gigantic university offers hundreds of opportunities for undergraduates and has shown to repetitively charge lower tuition rates with large portions of the student body receiving financial aid and scholarships. 2. Capital University – A private, Lutheran affiliated college, Capital University is the oldest university in central Ohio. It is located in Bexley, a suburb of Columbus. Capital prides itself on its undergraduate research opportunities and top-of-the-line facilities. Tuition charges add up to $29,300 per year.
3. Columbus State Community College – With over 23,000 student, Columbus State does not offer your typical community college experience. The campus is located in downtown Columbus and operates nine off campus centers. An education here runs at the low price of $2,800 per year, and the school offers more than 140 certificates and degrees.
4. Franklin University - Although Franklin focuses on adult education, they also provide education to young adults. Founded in 1902, the university has grown to be the third largest private university in Ohio. Franklin provides a flexible schedule, competitive tuition, and relevant programs of study. Tuition costs are $298 per credit hour.
5. Ohio Dominican University – Founded in 1911, this private, Catholic university offers a distinctly liberal arts education to its students. With just over 3,000 students, the Ohio Dominican University offers small class sizes and an individualized educational experience. Tuition is $24,100 per year.
6. University of Findlay – Two hours north of Columbus is the University of Findlay. Findlay offers nearly 60 major areas of study with an enrollment of over 4,000 students. Findlay is committed to providing the best education possible for its students. Tuition costs are $13,000 a year.
7. Ohio Wesleyan University – With their 2010 commencement address given by senator and former presidential candidate John McCain, Ohio Wesleyan University is not a school to be scoffed at. One of the nation’s premier small liberal arts college, OWU is a twenty minute drive north of Columbus in Delaware, Ohio. Hosting 1,850 students, OWU offers 93 majors and 31 departments. Tuition is $34,570 per year.
8. Wilberforce University – The oldest African American private university in the United States, Wilberforce is located an hour west of Columbus. Enrolling only 850 students, WU provides an intimate education with small class sizes and individualized attention from professors. Tuition is $11,560 per year.
9. Denison University – A forty minute drive to the east of Columbus, Denison University is one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges. The campus focuses on integrity, diversity, sustainability, and service learning as some of its objectives. With only a little over 2,000 undergraduates, Denison charges $35,650 in tuition per year.
10. Kenyon College – An hour to the northeast of Columbus, Kenyon College hosts 1,600 students, with a campus including a 380 acre nature preserve. This private, residential liberal arts college offers an average class size of 15. Tuition is $39,420 per year.
